Trump Signals Progress in Iran Talks
U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that a possible agreement aimed at ending tensions with Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz is nearing completion, raising hopes of reduced conflict in the Middle East and improved stability in global energy markets.
Trump shared the update after holding discussions with several Gulf nations and key U.S. allies in the region. According to him, major parts of the agreement have already been discussed, while the remaining details are currently being finalized.
Talks With Gulf Leaders and Netanyahu
In an online statement, Trump said he held “very good” conference calls with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain. He also confirmed a separate conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the call as positive.
“The final details of the agreement are currently being discussed and will be announced soon,” Trump said. He added that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open under the proposed arrangement.
Why the Strait of Hormuz Matters
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil exports. A large share of global crude oil passes through the narrow waterway, making stability in the region critical for international markets. Any disruption in the strait often leads to concerns about rising fuel prices and global trade uncertainty.

Ceasefire and Nuclear Discussions Continue
Trump’s comments came as diplomatic efforts continued in Tehran, where mediators are reportedly working to extend the current ceasefire arrangement for another 60 days. Officials familiar with the talks believe negotiations are moving closer toward a broader framework that could also restart discussions over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Pakistani and Qatari negotiators reportedly met Iranian officials in Tehran last Thursday and Friday. Sources involved in the negotiations said both countries have remained in close contact with U.S. envoy Alexei Weikov during the discussions.
Possible Terms of the Agreement
According to officials briefed on the talks, the proposed agreement may include a phased reopening of the Strait of Hormuz along with negotiations involving Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Discussions reportedly include options related to dilution measures or the surrender of some uranium material under international supervision.
In exchange, the United States could gradually ease sanctions on Iranian ports and other economic sectors. The proposal may also include reduced financial restrictions and the release of frozen Iranian assets held abroad.
Iran Yet to Officially Respond
Iran has not yet officially responded to Trump’s latest remarks, and no final agreement has been publicly confirmed by Tehran. However, diplomatic activity across the region has intensified in recent days as several countries push to avoid a wider conflict that could threaten global oil supplies and regional stability.
Analysts say a successful agreement could help calm tensions across the Middle East while also reducing pressure on energy markets already facing uncertainty from ongoing geopolitical risks.
Although negotiations remain sensitive, officials involved in the process appear cautiously optimistic that the ceasefire discussions could eventually lead to a broader political and security agreement in the coming weeks.
