Hong Kong film legend Patrick Tse, nicknamed “Fourth Brother,” passed away on July 16th from pneumonia at the age of 89. The news was not revealed until July 20th. His outspoken and frank style left a deep impression on many. One of the most high-profile incidents was in 2015 when he publicly slapped Kenneth Tsang during a promotion for the TVB program “Four Young Men Go Traveling,” shocking the entertainment industry and becoming a classic topic of conversation in Hong Kong’s entertainment world.
“Four Young Men Go on a Trip” was co-hosted by Patrick Tse, Wu Fung, Kenneth Tsang, and Joe Junior. The four traveled to Moscow, Russia in May 2015 to film on location for 16 days. During filming, Kenneth Tsang suffered a gout attack and had to use crutches to walk. Later, he had an accident while riding an off-road vehicle, which caused him to have a nosebleed for 4 hours and was hospitalized for a period of time. In the end, he had to complete the rest of the filming trip in a wheelchair.
However, Patrick Tse always believed that Kenneth Tsang was “faking illness,” which sowed the seeds of discord between the two. In August of the same year, at the press conference for the program, Patrick Tse was supposed to celebrate his 79th birthday, dancing with Russian dancers in a very joyful atmosphere. However, halfway through the event, things took a dramatic turn.
Patrick Tse suddenly went on stage and publicly questioned Kenneth Tsang’s frequent excuses for using a wheelchair to avoid participating in events. He even stated that Tsang’s nosebleed for four hours was “unbelievable.” His emotions escalated, and he eventually punched and slapped Tsang on stage. When Wu Fung tried to break up the fight, he was also caught in the crossfire, and his glasses were knocked off. Patrick Tse then emotionally declared, “Everyone lets you bully them, but I won’t let you bully them.” The footage quickly went viral and sparked heated discussions online.
Afterwards, Patrick Tse revealed that in addition to the unpleasantness during filming, what bothered him even more was that when he was dubbing for the program, Kenneth Tsang complained that because he was dubbing slower, everyone was unable to finish work early, which made him feel humiliated in public, so his emotions completely erupted at the press conference.
It wasn’t until 2018 that Patrick Tse changed his tune at an event, stating that the slapping incident was actually a staged scene arranged for the promotion of a program, “just acting.” Later that year, Patrick Tse, Wu Fung, and Kenneth Tsang appeared together at the opening of their friend Ng Kai-ming’s restaurant, chatting and laughing and taking happy photos together, proving that they had let go of their grudges and reconciled.
Hu Feng shared with a laugh that he originally planned to treat everyone, but Xie Xian insisted on paying the bill. He joked, “Brother Si lives in a multi-million dollar mansion, while I only live in a house worth a few million dollars. Of course, I’ll eat Brother Si’s food.” This joke brought a perfect end to this once sensational feud.
