Lin Chi-ling serves as the spokesperson for the exhibition “Masters of Classical Light and Shadow: From Rembrandt to Goya – Treasures from the Toledo Museum of Art, Part I,” and also recorded an online audio guide for the exhibition. At a press conference yesterday, she revealed that she has been invited to be an audio guide for the third time. With a double major in Western Art History and Economics from the University of Toronto, she disclosed that her first job before entering the entertainment industry was as an arts administrator at the Fubon Arts Foundation.
Despite the demanding workload, Lin Chi-ling thoroughly enjoyed it and gained a great deal. A graduate in Western Art History, she happily stated, “Through this experience, I once again felt that art truly transcends time. Although these works are old, the themes of light, emotion, and humanity they explore still resonate with me deeply. It felt like I was reviewing what I had learned before and reconnecting with the real works, making it a very fulfilling experience for me!”
She said, “People may think that I just read the script, but actually I will first understand the artwork and the artist’s creative background, and then imagine what kind of tone I would use to accompany the audience if I were a first-time visitor. In order to share the profound art knowledge with everyone in the most natural and easy-to-understand way in the limited time, while not losing the original depth of the artwork.”
With her sweet voice, Lin Chi-ling is widely recognized as a natural-born voice actress. In addition to being competent in dubbing and audio guide work, she shows great enthusiasm for various voice performances in her private life and aspires to become a well-rounded cross-disciplinary voice professional. She said, “If there are suitable works in the future, whether it is film, animation, or art or education-related content, I am very willing to try them. I hope to communicate with everyone in different ways.”
When asked which job is more difficult, acting or voice acting, Lin Chi-ling believes that voice acting and acting actually have the common goal of “sincerely conveying emotions,” but the challenges are completely different. “Acting can help the character tell a story through eyes, expressions, and body language, while voice acting relies entirely on the voice. Therefore, the rhythm, pauses, and even the slightest breathing sounds of every sentence are crucial, requiring a stronger imagination.”
Lin Chi-ling, who is passionate about voice acting, is not only good at using her voice to guide audiences through audio tours, but also uses her sweet voice to lull her children to sleep at home. She revealed that she is her children’s exclusive “storyteller” and often tells them stories before bedtime. She also makes good use of her voice acting skills to play role-playing and voice-changing performances. Her super vivid storytelling skills are so good that even her son can’t resist them. Every time he hears a story, he excitedly pulls her to ask her to “tell it again”!
She laughed and said, “When I read bedtime stories, I add the voices of different characters to make the stories more vivid and interesting, and my son also likes to listen to the stories.” In addition to acting as a storyteller to enhance parent-child interaction, Lin Chi-ling also shared her unique two-way interaction tips. She revealed that sometimes she would take a supporting role and let the children try to tell stories based on pictures, expressing themselves in their own way.
She plays the role of a completely focused listener, saying, “I think reading stories is a precious time spent together, and it’s also a form of communication between parents and children.” Lin Chi-ling hopes that through this interactive process of listening and speaking, she can not only cultivate her child’s imagination and empathy, but also subtly enhance their expressive abilities.
