The New York Post reports that this remote houseboat, located in the Atlantic Ocean between Florida and Cuba , is listed on Airbnb as Tiki Suite. Ruben Holgado, a 23-year-old Spanish travel influencer, shared his experience at one of the world’s most unique hotels in May in a long YouTube video, accumulating over 890,000 views. His shorter version of the video on Instagram has also garnered over 90,000 likes.
Holgado first took a 10-hour flight from Barcelona to Miami, then drove for more than five hours to Key West, and then took a one-hour boat ride to Tiki Suite.
Tiki Suite can only be reached by boat. Jorgado said the check-in process was quite complicated. For example, he needed a boat license to check in because the houseboat was considered a “boat”. Jorgado’s five-night stay was quite expensive, costing him a total of 3,458 yuan.
Tiki Suite stands alone in the Atlantic Ocean, with no other facilities or islands nearby. Jorgado said the houseboat owner, “Captain Chris,” gave him a shopping list for his stay before he checked in, warned him about wildlife, and told him not to stray too far from the houseboat, adding, “This isn’t the first time someone has needed a rescue.”
Holgado said that Key West is known for its large number of sharks, and Captain Chris also warned him to be careful of sharks, which undoubtedly added to the sense of adventure. During his stay, he also encountered a tropical storm, which made him start to wonder if it was a good idea to be alone in the vast ocean. Fortunately, the storm did not cause any accidents.
Tiki Suite is described on Airbnb as “a tranquil and secluded luxury glamping experience unlike anything else you’ll find elsewhere.” Guests often spot dolphins, manatees, stingrays, or schools of tropical fish swimming by. But don’t worry about living a primitive life in the houseboat, as it has air conditioning, custom-made oak beds, and hidden TVs. Jorgado’s video even shows that there are some movie DVDs available in the houseboat, including The Notebook and The Aviator. Since he was at sea, he chose to watch Titanic.
In the 31-minute video, Jorgado also went snorkeling to see shipwrecks, paddleboarding, and even fishing for dinner. He said the experience was simultaneously peaceful, adventurous, and somewhat frightening, and might be best suited for explorers who enjoy visiting unusual destinations far from the civilized world.
