Relevant South Korean authorities said today that after the third attempt, the Internet-famous shark “Little Beigang” has been freed from the narrow waterway of Busan Beigang Water Park, where it was stranded.
The shark, nicknamed “Little Beigang” by the public, appeared in a narrow waterway at Busan Beigang Water Park last month, Agence France-Presse reported.
A spokesman for South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries told AFP late this evening that “the shark has left the waterway”, without giving further details.
Yonhap news agency reported that relevant authorities estimated that the person would swim to the sea after leaving “Xiaobigang” in the waterway.
This 3 meter long gray shark attracted many fans. Crowds of people traveled to Busan to catch a glimpse of it, which unexpectedly provided a wave of support to the local economy.
Relevant South Korean authorities tried twice to tow the “Little Beigang” back to sea, but failed. As the water temperature gradually dropped, officials launched the third operation this morning.
A spokesperson for South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said officials initially chose to wait for the shark to move away on its own, but due to growing concerns about its health, they decided to attempt to guide it a third time.
