Midterm elections/defections had no impact on the Michigan Democratic Party’s “self-declared elections”

michigan democratic party Senatorial candidate Abdul al-Sayed declared victory on his own on the morning of the 4th. Results of 83% of the votes released at the time showed that he won 51.8% of the vote, ahead of Republican US Senate candidate Mike Rogers (46.2%).

If he wins, Saeed will become the first Muslim senator in United States history. “We did it! I’m so proud to stand here as the senator you elected,” he told a crowd of supporters in Detroit awaiting the results of the late vote.

Democratic Michigan U.S. Representative Haley Stevens defected to support Rogers before the election. As a result, he helped Saeed’s team raise a new single-day record of $2.4 million.
