nvidia (Huida (also known as Nvidia) took a liking to the old telecommunications computer room and planned to convert it into an AI data center.
Bloomberg News quoted technology media The Information as saying that Huida has contacted Apollo Global Management, hoping to use the existing buildings of Apollo’s telecom operators to build a small AI data center network that could span up to 20 states across the United States.
The scheme targets broadband network service provider Brightspeed, which is under operational pressure, said two people with direct knowledge of the matter. The company operates more than 130 buildings equipped with equipment to handle voice and data traffic.
Huida estimates that Brightspeed’s scattered buildings have a total of about 1 billion watts (1GW) of power available. Huida hopes to convert these existing facilities into AI data centers, and has presented ideas and proposals to Apollo executives.
Huida personnel have also discussed with suppliers to remodel some Brightspeed buildings and install Vera Rubin server cabinets beginning in the first quarter of 2027.
It is unclear who will finance the purchase of the Huida chips needed for these facilities.
