The focal depth of this earthquake was 11 kilometers and its center was located at 31.90 degrees north latitude and 104.46 degrees east longitude. The epicenter was 30 kilometers away from Jiangyu City, 32 kilometers away from Beichuan County, 42 kilometers away from Anzhou District, 56 kilometers away from Yuxian District, 57 kilometers away from Pingwu County, 52 kilometers away from Mianyang City and 144 kilometers away from Chengdu City.
The earthquake was felt in Chengdu, Deyang, Suining, Luzhou, Sichuan, Chongqing and Hanzhong, Shaanxi.
After the earthquake, the Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Bureau immediately began to respond to the 4.1 magnitude earthquake in Beichuan, Sichuan, and assigned three people from the Chengdu Earthquake Monitoring Center Station to go to the site to respond as an advance working group.
Bai Xinbei, a citizen of Mianyang, said in a telephone interview with a reporter from China News Service that the earthquake did not last long, but the quake was clearly felt.
