New Jersey’s Powerball jackpot wins $847 million with one bet, the ninth-largest prize in history

Powerball Announces Another Billion Dollar Jackpot! A lottery player in New Jersey was so lucky that he guessed all the numbers in the Powerball lottery held on November 4 (Wednesday) and won the jackpot of US$847 million. He became the ninth-highest prize winner in Powerball history and the second-highest jackpot in 2026. The identity of the winner has not yet been officially announced.

People magazine reported that Powerball officials confirmed that the winning ticket was sold in Bergen County, New Jersey. The current lottery numbers are 15, 34, 41, 53, 56, the red Power Ball number is 21, and there is also a 2x multiplier option.

Stephen Durrell, president of Powerball Products Group and executive director of the Kansas Lottery, said before the drawing that when the jackpot reaches such a high amount, players will naturally increase their attention, and lottery ticket sales last week also reflect this excitement. He also explained that in addition to increasing the jackpot amount, each lottery ticket sold also provides funding for important public programs and services in local communities.

If you choose to claim the US$847 million jackpot in cash at once, you will receive an estimated US$363.1 million. With the jackpot being drawn, the next Powerball prize on November 7 (Saturday) has been reset to US$20 million, and the lump sum cash withdrawal amount is estimated to be US$8.6 million.

It is worth noting that a previous Powerball jackpot winner also entered the top 10 money list in history. In August this year, a winning lottery ticket was sold in Illinois and the winner received US$1.04 billion, ranking eighth in history. The winner chose to remain anonymous and later revealed that at first he did not believe he had won the prize and even called his family to confirm.

The winner said: “Even after receiving the prize, I am still digesting the news. All kinds of emotions are intertwined, from disbelief and shock to great joy at winning the US$1 billion jackpot.” Calling it an unexpected blessing, he also said that he never thought that buying a lottery ticket for US$2 could yield a prize of US$1.04 billion.

The largest jackpot in Powerball history was US$2.04 billion won in 2022, won by winner Edwin Castro of California. It is still the only Powerball prize worth more than US$2 billion.
