Egyptian President Sisi said his current term will end in 2030 and reiterated he will not amend the constitution

egypt President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said today that his current presidential term is expected to end in 2030, and the issue of him leaving office is a foregone conclusion, reiterating that there will be no further changes to Egypt’s constitution.

Reuters reported that Sisi said of the end of his current term: “I said it would not affect the Egyptian constitution. This is something that has been completely finalized and will not be discussed anymore.”

He made the comments while attending the graduation ceremony of new trainees at the Egyptian Military Academy today.

After 71-year-old Sisi was successfully re-elected in presidential elections in December 2023, he was sworn in for a third six-year term in April 2024.

Egypt passed a constitutional amendment in 2019 extending the presidential term from four to six years and allowing Sisi to run for a third term, removing obstacles for him to rule until 2030.

In 2013, Sisi, then an army general, led forces to overthrow Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi, who faced massive public protests and seized power.
